Climate Shifts in Crestwood, KY: Analyzing the Local Environment’s Evolving Dynamics

Nestled in the heart of Kentucky, Crestwood enjoys a humid subtropical climate characterized by hot and humid summers, accompanied by mild winters. Over the years, this picturesque town has witnessed several notable shifts in its climate, prompting concerns about its impact on the local environment. In this blog post, we will delve into the changing climate of Crestwood, explore the potential consequences on its ecosystems, and discuss the importance of preserving its natural heritage amidst these evolving dynamics.

The Changing Landscape of Crestwood’s Climate

Historical climate data reveals that Crestwood’s climate has not remained static. Over the past decade, the region has experienced noticeable changes in average temperatures. Winters have been milder, and summers have become hotter, with the average high temperature reaching approximately 90°F.

Additionally, precipitation levels have seen fluctuations, with nearly 50 inches of rain falling annually. While winters typically bring around 11 inches of snow, Crestwood occasionally faces periods of drought or flooding due to storm systems originating from the Gulf of Mexico.

Impact of Climate Change on Local Ecosystems

These shifts in climate have not gone unnoticed by the local ecosystems. Flora and fauna in Crestwood are facing challenges due to the rising temperatures. Native species may struggle to adapt to the changing conditions, while invasive species may gain a foothold.

Furthermore, the increased precipitation poses potential threats to water bodies and vegetation, leading to soil erosion and an altered landscape. Extreme weather events, such as heavy rainfall and intense storms, can disrupt fragile ecosystems and put wildlife at risk.

Human Activities and Climate Change in Crestwood

While natural climate variability plays a role in Crestwood’s shifting climate, human activities also contribute significantly. The emission of greenhouse gases from various sources, such as transportation and industrial processes, contributes to the overall warming of the planet and, in turn, influences Crestwood’s climate. Reducing these emissions and transitioning towards sustainable practices are essential steps to mitigate the impacts of climate change on the region.

I’m a renter- but the owner and myself used AAAC Wildlife Removal for BATS in our roof/attic. They came in and gave us a free estimate and were very thorough. They went around the entire house, in our attic, took pictures and explained everything that is happening (and has happened- previous raccoon invader lol). They had to wait for Aug 15, when the bats pupping season was over- but they came back and sealed 90% of the house (and fixed a few flaws on the house which allowed larger animals), and after 09/15 added excluder tubes to the area the bats were going in and out. We’ve left those tube up for a few weeks and they just returned to remove the tubes, seal up the rest of the house, and went to the attic to spray an enzyme treatment to break down all the urine and feces. They have a 1 year warranty on their work and the sealing stuff they use is good for 10 years. They have done a great job and we couldn’t be more thankful. They also took care of a ground yellow jacket nest for me that I wasn’t aware was even there. Thankfully no one was stung while cutting grass. They offer full service with removal of the old insulation and blowing new stuff in. While we also appreciated that estimate and were hoping Homeowners would help with that cost- they ultimately didn’t so we will need to wait for that to be done after the enzyme treatment works. They explained the dangers of everything, and how things work. We couldn’t be more thankful for the service AAAC wildlife removal provided for us. My family and dogs feel much safer knowing we are BAT FREE! I will absolutely use them in the future for any wildlife removal we may need. Super happy customers! Thank you again!!! **REMINDER- Bats only need a space 3/8 of an inch thick to get into your house! It’s craziness! The circle in the photo is where they had entered. The photos are before and after. They show the problem side of the house- but they sealed the entire way around the house to make sure they could not find any other way inside**
