Raccoon Nest in the Attic

Louisville raccoon nest
Removing Raccoon nests from your Louisville attic is our specialty

You can’t set traps for such little creatures – they will remain in the bedding, nursing from the mother raccoon, until they are about three months old. At that point they may begin to leave the nest.

You can’t merely trap the mother raccoon and leave the babies in the house to starve. They must be removed by hand. Whenever you have a raccoon nest in the attic, it is best to do the following.

Raccoons and homes

A raccoon isn’t picky about where it lives. Outside, the most common material used are long grasses; however, Raccoons are smart enough to bring all kinds of material back to their hidey hole to make a nest.

If you are poking around in your attic looking for the nest, it may take you a moment to locate where the nest is situated.

Just stay calm and listen in silence for a while and you will begin to hear the occasional rustle and mewling whine coming from different spots in the attic.

If you are patient, you can slowly track down where the noises are coming from.

If you aren’t sure that the raccoon in your attic has a nest full of kits, it may be best to assume that it’s the case. The majority of adult raccoons that enter attics are females looking for a safe space to raise their young.

This doesn’t mean you’ll never find a male raccoon lurking around, it just means that females are the most common. If you catch a glimpse of the raccoon (and you just need to know its gender), look for a heavy milk laden waddle.

This is a sure sign that your raccoon has a nest up there. Without that kind of confirmation, you may need to be an expert to tell if your female raccoon is nursing young at just a glance.

At this point, if you have a raccoon nest up in your attic, it’s a good idea to call the professionals at AAAC Wildlife Removal. We have decades of experience in helping homeowners remove raccoon nests and seal up their homes to prevent it from happening again.

My wife and I hired them to help repair some damage and clean up after some raccoons had got into our attic. Despite it being difficult to ascess they were quick to come out and assess it and provide us a reasonable quote, shortly after the work was finished. I will definitely be recommending them in the future to anyone who needs help these types of pests.

I’m a renter- but the owner and myself used AAAC Wildlife Removal for BATS in our roof/attic. They came in and gave us a free estimate and were very thorough. They went around the entire house, in our attic, took pictures and explained everything that is happening (and has happened- previous raccoon invader lol). They had to wait for Aug 15, when the bats pupping season was over- but they came back and sealed 90% of the house (and fixed a few flaws on the house which allowed larger animals), and after 09/15 added excluder tubes to the area the bats were going in and out. We’ve left those tube up for a few weeks and they just returned to remove the tubes, seal up the rest of the house, and went to the attic to spray an enzyme treatment to break down all the urine and feces. They have a 1 year warranty on their work and the sealing stuff they use is good for 10 years. They have done a great job and we couldn’t be more thankful. They also took care of a ground yellow jacket nest for me that I wasn’t aware was even there. Thankfully no one was stung while cutting grass. They offer full service with removal of the old insulation and blowing new stuff in. While we also appreciated that estimate and were hoping Homeowners would help with that cost- they ultimately didn’t so we will need to wait for that to be done after the enzyme treatment works. They explained the dangers of everything, and how things work. We couldn’t be more thankful for the service AAAC wildlife removal provided for us. My family and dogs feel much safer knowing we are BAT FREE! I will absolutely use them in the future for any wildlife removal we may need. Super happy customers! Thank you again!!! **REMINDER- Bats only need a space 3/8 of an inch thick to get into your house! It’s craziness! The circle in the photo is where they had entered. The photos are before and after. They show the problem side of the house- but they sealed the entire way around the house to make sure they could not find any other way inside**
